El Capitan teacher Michelle Machado and her women’s tackle football teammates from the then undefeated Sacramento Sirens headed to Texas for the IWFL Championship Game. The Western Conference Champions met the Boston Militia on Saturday, July 24.

Prior to the Western Conference game’s start, Machado received a surprise when her daughter, Alex Smith, and friend Shelby Thompson (also of Delhi) sang the National Anthem.

Delhi residents who went out to support Machado and the Sirens in the Western Conference game said it was very exciting. Machado made a couple of big plays in the close game.

The Delhi boys basketball team got its second league win last night against Denair.

Following the Tuesday win over Waterford, the boys were looking to make some improvements and continue to work toward winning their way to the playoffs. Their hard work in practice this week paid off as they won their home opener 43-36.

The team got off to a bit of a slow start in the first quarter of the game as Denair came out strong and outscored the Delhi Hawks. After taking a time-out and meeting with Coach Rob Pecot, the boys came back onto the court looking ready to play their best. The Hawks quickly came from behind and tied the Coyotes at 11. The Hawks’ strong performance on the court continued and they played hard.

At halftime, the Delhi cheerleaders and the color guard performed for the crowd.

A full story on this year’s boys’ basketball team appears in the January printed edition available now.
