The Merced Irrigation District (District or MID) today announced it will be significantly increasing flows from Lake McClure (Exchequer Dam) in the Merced River below Merced Falls Dam and Crocker Huffman Dam beginning September 6, 2010.
On September 6, flow will increase by approximately 100 cubic feet per second (cfs) in the river for an approximate total flow of 1,800 cfs between Merced Falls Dam & Crocker Huffman Dam.
On September 7, flow will be increased in 275 cfs increments to a total of 3,200 cfs between Merced Falls Dam and Crocker Huffman Dam with 1,700 below Crocker Huffman Dam in the Merced River.
The increased flows will be maintained for 8 days. The peak flows are expected on September 9, 10, 11, and 12. On September 13, flows begin to gradually return to previous levels and stabilize by September 15.
During this high flow period, instream flow studies will be conducted for wildlife habitat assessment in the river channel, as part of MID’s New Exchequer Hydro-Electric Relicensing Project.
