The Merced Irrigation District (District or MID) today announced it will be significantly increasing flows from Lake McClure (Exchequer Dam) in the Merced River below Merced Falls Dam and Crocker Huffman Dam beginning September 6, 2010.

On September 6, flow will increase by approximately 100 cubic feet per second (cfs) in the river for an approximate total flow of 1,800 cfs between Merced Falls Dam & Crocker Huffman Dam.

On September 7, flow will be increased in 275 cfs increments to a total of 3,200 cfs between Merced Falls Dam and Crocker Huffman Dam with 1,700 below Crocker Huffman Dam in the Merced River.

The increased flows will be maintained for 8 days. The peak flows are expected on September 9, 10, 11, and 12. On September 13, flows begin to gradually return to previous levels and stabilize by September 15.

During this high flow period, instream flow studies will be conducted for wildlife habitat assessment in the river channel, as part of MID’s New Exchequer Hydro-Electric Relicensing Project.

The county’s largest fun and exciting event is back to take a bite out of Flavors of the Valley on Friday.

The Stanislaus County Fair opens on Friday, July 16 at 5 p.m. for a 10-day run.  The 72-acre fairgrounds are located in Turlock at 900 N. Broadway. Fair officials have been working year round to plan for the Fair which is now in its 99th year.

“The Flavors of the Valley theme at this year’s Fair is a salute to our local manufacturers and processors,” said Adrenna Alkhas, spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Fair. “The theme will highlight food and beverages that are processed in the Central Valley.”

The Flavors of the Valley exhibit will feature local companies such as: 7UP, E&J Gallo Winery, Blue Diamond, Hilmar Cheese, Frito Lay, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Valley Meat Company, California Grown Nut Company and Hughson Nut Company. Each day different companies will be hosting the exhibit and samples will be given out.

“Discounted tickets are on sale now through July 15 at 7 p.m.” said Alkhas.  “Each night the Fair will have concerts that are included with the price of admission as well as discounted days to accommodate our guests. We have also brought our shuttle program back to simplify parking for our guests.”

Chiropractor Dennis Wazac and his wife Jo Wazac, Shiatsu Therapist, opened Wazac Chiropractic today. Wazac Chiropractic is located at 9761 Stephens, Suite C, in Delhi. They will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
Shiatsu therapy is akin to acupressure. Typically patients will see Jo first for shiatsu therapy, then Dennis will do adjustments as needed. Theirs will be a cash-only business and office visits cost $25, equivalent to many insurance co-payments these days. They will provide receipts for those wishing to bill their insurances.


Dennis and Jo recently closed their Chiropractic practice in Folsom after ten  years. They will live part-time in Cameron Park and part-time in Delhi. They remain very active in the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Folsom and both belong to the Mt. Olive Gospel Group, as well as other folk and gospel musical groups.
As to “why Delhi,” Dennis said “We have two daughters here, and lots of grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus there is a need here [for chiropractic services].”

The Mexican-American Baseball League will hold its All-Star Game this Saturday, July 3. It will take place on the Hilmar High School Varsity Field in Hilmar. Activities kick off at 11 a.m.

Delhi resident Mario Ojeda heads up the Mexican-American Baseball League. Games take place on various area fields, including Delhi.
