El Capitan will once again celebrate with a graduation ceremony to bring the school year to a close. This will be the first graduation at one of Delhi’s elementary schools since the transition to K-8 began. El Capitan eighth graders will graduate on Wednesday, May 21 at 7 p.m.

This kicks off several days of graduations. Delhi Middle School is set for Thursday, May 22; Delhi High School seniors will graduate Friday, May 23 and Shattuck graduates will cross the stage on Saturday, May 24.

Delhi skaters have come together to raise funds to improve the condition of Delhi’s skate park. Today is the day for a major fundraiser for the Delhi Skate Park.

The event will kick off at 4 p.m. at the skate park with the auction of a hand-painted skateboard, a raffle, food and a skate demo. Then, at 6 p.m. a benefit show will take place in the Delhi High School theater. The show will feature seven bands including The Wrath of Vesuvius, Must Kill Courtney, The Christening and others. The cost for the show is $7. Delhi High School is located at 16881 Schendel Road in Delhi.

The skate park is on Shanks Road near the Merced County Sheriff’s Department North Area Station. It neighbors the proposed site of a community park for Delhi.

In recent months, the skaters have rallied together to work on bringing improvements to the Delhi Skate Park. They identified a need and started working to lead the way to bring the improvements to the skate park.

As Memorial Day approaches, the Delhi Unified School District band has been preparing for their spring concert. The Patriotic event will take place Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. It will be held at the Delhi Ed Park theater. The concert will include a tribute to each branch of the US armed services.

During a recent gathering of the Delhi Seniors, former club president Donna Cardoza announced that the ladies should keep a watchful eye on their purses and avoid leaving them in their vehicles. Unfortunately, at least one of the ladies at that meeting had left her purse in the car and it was stolen.

The warning came because women in the Hilmar and Delhi area had fallen victim to purse snatchers. Someone is smashing in car windows and stealing purses. Many women keep their entire lives in their purses, from cash to credit cards and from drivers’ licenses to family photos.
