Submitted by Merced County Fair

Time is running out to enter the 2009 Merced County Fair’s logo design contest.

The fair is looking for clever and creative graphic designs to illustrate the 2009 Merced County Fair’s theme, “Catch The Buzz.” The deadline for entries is Friday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. The theme commodity of the 118th fair is bees, one of Merced County’s top agricultural products.

Wouldn’t it be sweet to see your artwork everywhere — on billboards, posters, T-shirts, buttons and banners? And you could win $500, just in time for holiday shopping!

Patti Otto of Amsterdam, in Northern Merced County, submitted the winning theme for the six-day fair, July 21-26, 2009.

The Merced County Fair, which is a showcase for the county’s agricultural bounty, is sponsoring the annual competition. “It’s not too late to create some fun designs for our logo contest that are as clever as our catchy new theme,” said Robin Hauck, the fair’s CEO. “We are looking for a logo that promotes the fair and the importance of bees in our county and its Ag economy.”

The top graphic designer wins $500 and a pair of season passes to the fair. The competition is open to Merced County residents only.

The Delhi Hawks traveled to Waterford Friday night to take on the Wildcats. The Hawks have remained scoreless so far this season. Unfortunately, that did not change Friday night.

The Hawks were held to seven total offensive yards and were shut out 68-0 by the Wildcats. The most recent loss takes Delhi to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the Southern League. Just two years ago, the Hawks were making their second playoff appearance.

Next week is homecoming for the Delhi Hawks. Homecoming festivities include a Powder Puff game on Thursday, October 23 at 7 p.m. During halftime, ASB will host a nighttime rally.
