How was your Thanksgiving? Hope you had a good one. Ours was quiet but good. We’ve been pretty busy since then. Time just seems to evaporate. My brother-in-law Darrel and his wife, Linda, took me to play Bingo at Table Mountain. We enjoy the scenery after you leave the freeway. It’s beautiful country. Have you ever been there? The Bingo room was always nice but the club area was small, cramped, dark and stuffy. They have remodeled and it’s light, spacious, smells nice and their chairs are low enough for even me. They also have a good buffet serving breakfast items, pizza, American, Chinese and Mexican cuisine through the early afternoon. We didn’t “Bingo” but we had a good time. My daughter Jennifer and I went the following week but for some reason, there was no Bingo that day. Jenn won and I broke even and we had fun. They had their Christmas lights up and they are really nice.

Speaking of Christmas lights, Delhi has some pretty good ones. There are several on South Avenue. We especially enjoy the Hansen’s lighted wagons. Take a little time before you go to Christmas Tree Lane in Turlock and check out Delhi.

The Theatre Arts Department at Delhi High School will be presenting an original theatre movement/dance/music piece on December 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13.  These are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  The shows name is “The Weeping Well,” and it is based off of a true incident that occurred in Madrid, Spain during the 1400s.  There are approximately 52 people in the cast and there are two sets of leads.  Each set of leads brings a different dynamic to the stage.  Fifth period leads play on the December 4, 6, and 12.  Seventh period leads play on the December 5, 11 and 13.

The story goes as such:  During the 1400s, Madrid was divided into four quarters. There was the Christian Quarter, the Jewish Quarter, the Muslim Quarter, and the business quarter. In the centre of these four quarters was the community well, where all the people got their water. During these times, it was absolutely taboo to mix religion; a Christian couldn’t date a Muslim, a Jew couldn’t date a Christian, etc.  However, a young Christian man fell in love with a young Jewish woman, and she with him.  They would meet at night at the well for their secret trysts.  Unfortunately, her brothers found out about him and murdered him.  In her grief, she threw herself down the well.  To this day, they say that on certain nights, you can still hear her weep.

Some of the dances include a Cha Cha, a Flamenco with castanets, and a fan dance.  There is also a rapier fight with three fighters.

Doors open at 7 p.m. No flash photography please. There is no admission fee.

Delhi High School is located at 16881 Schendel in Delhi.
