The Stanislaus County Fair opens today with a focus on Renewable Fun.

A must-see attraction is the new Rainforest exhibit. The 8,000 square-foot rainforest is open each day of the fair until 11 p.m. Whether you walk or slide in to the exhibit, there is much to see and enjoy. It includes live animals such as a giant tortoise, Macaws, a sloth and much more. It features live animal shows each day starring the Capuchin monkey and his friends. Feathered and furry creatures are provided by Pacific Animal Productions of San Diego and Brad’s World Reptiles has provided snakes and other reptiles.

This is the third year in a row that Brad’s World has come to the Stanislaus Fair.

It’s better than Disneyland’s The Jungle Cruise,” Fair spokesperson Pennie Rorex said on Thursday.

What makes it stand out, of course, are the live animals.

Mini-donuts have returned to the fair. They are available at a booth in the Costco Commercial Exhibits Building thanks to Danny’s Donuts of Sacramento. For just $3 for a half dozen or $5 for a full dozen, you can enjoy a tasty treat as you make your way through the commercial exhibits. They offer powder sugar, cinnamon sugar or plain. They also have vanilla or chocolate dipped donuts for $6 per dozen.

Butler Amusements brought a new ride for thrill-seekers to enjoy. The Windsurfer ride works similarly to the swings that people have enjoyed for years. Riders can customize the experience by moving the sail. Old favorites such as the bumper cars and ferris wheel have returned, of course, as well.

Also new this year is a great feature that took a lot of planning and preparation: Park and Ride. The park and ride option is completely free. You can park in lots at CSU-Stanislaus on Crowell Road and at Pitman High School for free then ride on the air-conditioned charter bus to the fair’s Arch Gate on Broadway Avenue. The ride, too, is free. It will feature a different DVD presentation each day offering highlights for that day at the fair. KHOP’s morning disc jockeys helped with that. The buses run every 15-20 minutes from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. there are 800 parking spaces at CSU and 400 at Pitman.

This year’s fair offers a lot of great concerts and events. It opens at 5 p.m. on weeknights and at noon on weekends. It runs today through Sunday, August 9. Check back here at DelhiExpressNews.com for regular updates.
