Earlier this summer, A&W/Long John Silver’s closed at the Delhi Travel Center. The owners started looking into replacing the fast food restaurants with Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell which were thought to be a better fit for the area. They submitted plans to the county and hoped to proceed, but the idea was contingent upon their bank working with them.
When the bank refused to loan additional money, things continued to get more difficult for the owners. Owner Sam Kamboj said that after putting $2 million of his personal savings into the businesses, he had nothing left. They were falling behind on payments and despite the success of the Subway at the travel center, they just couldn’t continue to cover their bills. Kamboj said the bank was unwilling to work with him and so, he decided last week that it was time to close.
The Delhi Travel Center including a convenience store and ARCO gas closed on Friday, July 31.
Kamboj said he will take some time and start working to rebuild his savings. When he came to the United States, he had about $20 in his pocket. He worked hard and built a savings in order to go into business for himself. He will look into job opportunities and start working toward his future. He is thankful to still have his health and he is most thankful for the opportunities the United States of America offers.
