Graphics Shogun — Darrel McCurdy
Darrel McCurdy has several years of experience in graphic arts. He has worked with both printed material and publications as well as in web design. His previous newspaper experience includes work on the Modesto JC newspaper, The Pirates’ Log and ad design for The Oakdale Leader. He won a First Place award for his press pass design at the 1998 Journalism Association of Community Colleges (JACC) Annual State Conference in Fresno. He has an AA in Fine Art and an AS in Computer Graphics. In addition to his work with The Delhi Express, he is one of the local artists featured in Delhi’s art shows which occur twice a year at Perfect Blend and he provides freelance graphics services for those needing logo design, website design and other graphics work.
Executive Editor — Rebekah R. McCurdy
Rebekah McCurdy has journalism experience dating back to elementary school where she helped start a “magazine” with a handful of classmates. She studied journalism at Modesto JC and CSU Stanislaus. She was the Entertainment Editor for one semester and the Executive Editor for one semester on MJC’s The Pirates’ Log. She earned an Honorary Mention in 1997 in the JACC On-the-Spot entertainment writing contest. In 1998, she earned a First Place award for the same writing contest. She is also a published poet. She served as a freelance writer for The Waterford News before going on to be the Editor for The Delhi Express and Hilmar Times from 1998 to 2000. She has an AA in General College, a BA in Social Science and is part of the way through her MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In addition to her newspaper work, she teaches ESL and ESL Citizenship at the Delhi Adult School. She holds an Adult Ed Credential and her (Emergency) CLAD Certification.
Together, the McCurdys also publish The King’s Messenger, a monthly newsletter for Christ the King Community Episcopal Church in Riverbank. They also worked with the owners of Perfect Blend on starting the Delhi Art Show. Rebekah teams with Brenda Saavedra each spring and fall to co-ordinate the shows. The two also enjoy providing marketing services in anyway they can. They have been involved with marketing and publicity for local bands Forgiven by Grace and B.O.O.K.
Hometown Highlights Writer — Joan McCurdy
Joan McCurdy is retired from Pacific Bell. She was also very involved with CWA (Communication Workers of America). She is currently involved with the Delhi Seniors Club that meets every Wednesday for BINGO. They meet on the first Wednesday of the month for a potluck lunch and business meeting before BINGO. She loves writing Hometown Highlights in which she covers everything from exciting family events to community events and, of course, she shares who won at BINGO. She’s always interested in adding your special news. Hometown Highlights is where The Delhi Express features birthdays, anniversaries, military news and anything else someone from the Delhi community would like to share with their neighbors. She also helps cover seniors events and the Stanislaus County Fair.
